• We began seeing signs that there was a detour, ahead…
 • At this point, we had no idea why there was a detour… As you can see, straight ahead, is the "real" road, but it's been shut down…
So, I jumped out and shot a few photos of the bridge and the area, for posterity.
We were the first car in the queue, and waited about 12 minutes or so, when suddenly this very long line of cars began coming over the bridge!
After about 3 minutes the cars stopped flowing, and another minute or two the light changed to green, and we proceeded, cautiously, over the bridge. About 1/4 mile up the road we saw why there was a detour!
 • The detour bridge was an odd but very functional design, metal framework with drop-in-metal-panels, for the roadway surface.

Note where the roadway used to split?
 • Here you can see the split, down the center of the roadway on the bridge where the metal panels drop onto the framework of the bridge, below.
A temporary fix?
 • Again, here you can see the central split for the panels of the roadway.
 • A view off the entrance of the bridge to the waters fairly far, below.

 • Even though the water level was fairly low, the river was fast moving!

 • This is just the tip of the Rock Slide! It goes on for hundreds of feet! The miracle is that there was no loss of life in this slide, or so we have been told. My question is, "Since the existing roadway is still covered by the slide, how, do they know for certain that no one is under there?" I mean, how could you tell? The entire roadway along the mountain is UNDER the slide debris! And it goes on for what seems like forever!
Really kind of scary…

 • Midst of the Rock slide, where there once was a road.
It goes on for hundreds of feet!
To the left of this image, you can just make-out a portion of the roadway, or at least, what is left of it!
